A piece of metal is lodged in my EX2 extruder and I can't dislodge it.

How to Reverse the Filabot EX2 Drive Motor to Dislodge Metal Pieces

If a foreign metal piece becomes lodged in the Filabot EX2 extruder, follow these steps to safely reverse the drive motor and attempt to dislodge it. In some cases the foreign metal piece cannot be removed and the unit will need to be returned to Filabot for repair.

Steps:

1. Heat the Filabot EX2: Set the unit to the processing temperature of the plastic currently in the barrel. This ensures that the plastic is softened and will not add resistance during the process.

2. Clear the Hopper: Remove any pellets in the hopper to prevent additional material from being fed into the barrel.

3. Power Down: Unplug the Filabot EX2 from the power source to ensure safety while accessing internal components.

4. Access the Drive Board: Remove the 13 plastic rivets securing the front panel of the Filabot EX2. Carefully detach the front panel to expose the drive board.

5. Drive Board Versions: There are two versions of the motor drive board. The specific steps are listed below for each version.

Version 1 Drive Board: Locate the four terminal connectors on the control board and unplug from the board. Remove the red and black motor wires from the left-side of the plug. Swap the positions of the red and black wires, effectively reversing the motor's polarity. And reconnect to the drive board.

Version 2 Drive Board: Using a flat head screw driver, pry and pop off the printed holder from the Filabot EX2 base frame.

Remove the connector that is holding the yellow, red, and black wire.

Pull the control board out to access the terminal screws. Switch the center red and black wire, to reverse the motor direction.

6. Reassemble and Power On: Plug the Filabot EX2 back into the power source.
7. Reverse the Motor:

- Set the screw speed to a slow setting.
- Flip the extruder motor switch to the "On" position, but only for a few seconds.
- The screw should rotate backward. If the lodged metal piece is not severely jammed, it will dislodge, and you can safely remove it after stopping the motor.

8. Assess Movement: If the screw does not move backward, the obstruction may require professional servicing. Contact Filabot for further assistance.

9. Revert Motor Wiring:

- If the metal piece is successfully removed and the screw rotates freely, unplug the unit.
- Swap the red and black wires back to their original positions.
- Reinstall the front panel using the plastic rivets.

Important Notes:
● Always ensure the unit is unplugged before handling internal components.
● Use caution when operating the screw in reverse to avoid further damage.
● If the issue persists, do not attempt further repairs and send the unit to Filabot for professional service.
